About the harvey’s red duiker
Harvey's red duiker is the East African counterpart of the red forest duiker, separated by its dark chocolate face blaze, blackish lower legs and a slightly larger, more orange body. Its Tanzanian stronghold is the montane forest belt of the northern highlands.
Arusha National Park is the classic place to look for it, in the forest between the Ngurdoto Crater rim and the Momella Lakes. Like all duikers it is quiet, solitary and quick to vanish, so patience on foot or on a slow forest drive matters more than distance covered.

Diurnal in quiet forest, crepuscular where disturbed. Moves along established trails through the understorey and freezes before diving into cover.

Solitary or paired, holding a small territory scent-marked from glands below the eyes.
