Species profile

About the fischer’s lovebird

Fischer's lovebird is a Tanzanian endemic with a natural range confined to the plateau south and east of Lake Victoria, taking in the Serengeti. It is a compact green parrot with an orange-red face fading to golden on the breast, an olive crown and a bold white eye-ring.

Flocks fly fast and straight between acacias with a shrill twittering, and they nest in tree cavities and among the sticks of large raptor nests. The species is Near Threatened, historically because of heavy trapping for the cage-bird trade.
