Package Overview What this trip is, in a nutshell
Fly from Zanzibar into the northern wilds of Tanzania for four private days across four iconic safari landscapes.

Designed for travellers already enjoying Zanzibar who want to add a concentrated mainland wildlife experience, this private four-day journey trades long pre-safari positioning for a scheduled flight into Arusha and immediate access to the northern circuit. In just four days the route connects the baobab-and-river landscapes of Tarangire, the enclosed ecosystem of the Ngorongoro Crater, the open plains of the Central Serengeti and the forest-to-lakeshore habitats of Lake Manyara.

The service level is premium mid-range: comfortable Karatu lodge nights, a tented-camp night in the Central Serengeti, a private pop-up-roof 4x4 and a dedicated guide-driver. The itinerary is intentionally active rather than leisurely; it is best for travellers who value wildlife variety and efficient logistics, and who are comfortable with two long road days.

Wildlife possibilities include elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, hippos, hyenas, lions and many antelope and bird species. Leopards, cheetahs and black rhinos are possible in the appropriate ecosystems but cannot be promised. The Central Serengeti is used because it provides strong resident-wildlife value across much of the year, while the seasonal guidance explains when a different Serengeti sector may be worth a route redesign.

The quoted rate is based on two travellers sharing and includes the one-way scheduled Zanzibar-Arusha flight within the stated package flight budget. The safari ends in Arusha or at Kilimanjaro International Airport rather than returning to the island, which suits travellers flying home from the mainland.

Accommodation is subject to availability. If a named property is unavailable, Splendor Safari may propose a comparable property of a similar standard and location.

Day description

A scheduled flight from the island to Arusha, then straight into Tarangire for a first game drive among baobabs and elephant herds, finishing with a lodge night in the Karatu highlands.

Morning

Private transfer from your agreed Zanzibar pickup point to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, then the confirmed scheduled flight to Arusha Airport. On arrival, meet your Splendor Safari guide-driver, receive a short vehicle and safety briefing, and continue toward Tarangire.

Afternoon

Enter Tarangire National Park and enjoy a picnic lunch at an authorized site, then begin the first game drive along riverine habitats, baobab woodland and open savanna. Game viewing continues flexibly, concentrating on areas where water, shade and fresh grazing are drawing wildlife. Tarangire is especially associated with elephants, giraffes, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and varied birdlife; lions and leopards are possible but never assured.

Evening

Leave the park before gate-closing time and drive through the Rift Valley corridor toward Karatu. Check in, have dinner and rest after the fly-in safari day.

About this stay

A mid-range lodge in Karatu - a good recovery point after Tarangire and logical staging for the early Ngorongoro departure. Alternatives: Farm of Dreams Lodge; Marera Valley Lodge.

This day depends heavily on flight punctuality. An early Zanzibar departure gives the best Tarangire game-drive window; late flights may shorten park time. Breakfast is not included today.

Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti Plains

Day description

A morning on the crater floor among its grasslands, marshes and soda lake, then up the exit road and west across the highlands into the Central Serengeti - the most logistically demanding day of the safari.

Morning

After an early breakfast, drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater. Spend the morning exploring grasslands, marshes, forest pockets and the soda-lake environment.

Afternoon

Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated crater site - wildlife commonly associated with the crater includes wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, gazelles, hyena, hippo and lions, and black rhino may be seen although sightings are never guaranteed. Ascend the crater and continue across the highlands toward the Serengeti, entering through the Naabi Hill area and turning the transfer into an en-route game drive as you approach the central plains.

Evening

Arrive at your tented camp in the Central Serengeti for dinner. Listen to the sounds of the wilderness from camp while staff brief you on safe movement after dark.

Sunrise Serengeti and the Return to the Highlands

Day description

A dawn game drive through the Seronera riverine corridors and kopjes while the air is still cool, then the long overland return east across the plains to the Karatu highlands.

Morning

Start with an early game drive when temperatures are cooler and wildlife activity can be high. Explore the Seronera riverine corridors, kopjes and open plains according to recent sightings and your own interests, returning for breakfast or taking a packed breakfast where operationally practical.

Afternoon

Continue game viewing before a picnic or packed lunch. The Central Serengeti supports resident wildlife throughout the year, while migratory herd concentrations shift seasonally with rainfall and grazing. Then begin the overland journey toward Naabi Hill and the Ngorongoro highlands; wildlife and landscape stops are possible en route, but your guide will manage time carefully so you reach Karatu safely.

Evening

Check in at your Karatu lodge, enjoy dinner and prepare for the final Lake Manyara day.
