Package Overview What this trip is, in a nutshell
Five private safari days linking elephant country, Serengeti plains and the wildlife-rich Ngorongoro Crater.

The 5-Day Serengeti Signature Private Safari is designed for travellers who want the northern circuit of Tanzania in a focused, well-paced journey without sacrificing the freedom of a private vehicle. From Arusha, the route enters Tarangire National Park for baobab scenery and excellent opportunities to observe elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, antelope and predators. It then continues through the Great Rift Valley and the Ngorongoro highlands to the Central Serengeti, where two nights inside the ecosystem create valuable time for early and late game drives around the Seronera region and adjoining plains. The journey finishes with an early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater before returning to Arusha.

Accommodation combines an atmospheric Rift Valley lodge, a classic tented camp in the Central Serengeti and a comfortable Karatu lodge positioned for efficient crater access. This premium mid-range style is aimed at guests who value private facilities, good food, warm hospitality and practical locations more than ultra-luxury extras.

The private-safari format is one of the strongest benefits of this package. Your party has the vehicle and guide-driver to itself, making it easier to adjust departure times, spend longer at rewarding sightings, pause for photography, accommodate children or special interests, and balance game viewing with rest. The guide still operates within park rules and responsible wildlife-viewing practices, and sightings can never be promised.

The itinerary works year-round, although the character of each season changes. The dry months often concentrate animals around reliable water; the green months bring fresh landscapes, dramatic skies and strong birding; and the Great Migration may pass through different Serengeti sectors at different times. Because this is a compact five-day route, Splendor Safari can adjust the Serengeti sector or recommend an additional night when migration-focused travellers would gain materially from a seasonal change.

Value comes from concentrating four nights in strategically placed properties, including two consecutive Serengeti nights, while keeping the journey private and minimising unnecessary hotel changes. Park fees, conservation fees, planned meals, game drives, safari transport, drinking water and airport transfers are built into the quotation framework.

Accommodation is subject to availability. If a named property is unavailable, Splendor Safari may propose a comparable property of a similar standard and location.

Baobab Country and the Tarangire River

Day description

A full game drive through the baobab woodland and riverine habitats of Tarangire, then west to a Rift Valley lodge positioned for the following morning journey toward the Serengeti.

Morning

Meet your private guide-driver in Arusha for a safari briefing, luggage check and route review. Drive southwest toward Tarangire, watching the landscape change from the cultivated outskirts of Arusha to open Maasai country and dry woodland. After park-entry formalities, begin a game drive through acacia and baobab habitats. Tarangire is especially associated with elephants, and the river and seasonal marshes can attract buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffes, waterbuck, impala and many birds; lions and other predators are possible but never assured.

Afternoon

Enjoy a picnic lunch at an authorized picnic area, or a lodge lunch if arranged in advance. Your guide can use the midday period to explore riverine stretches, Silale-area habitats or other productive zones depending on road access, wildlife reports and the season. The game drive continues with attention to elephant family groups, baobab compositions, raptors and late-afternoon activity, before departing the park with enough daylight to reach the Rift Valley accommodation safely.

Evening

Check in, shower and relax. Dinner is served at the lodge. If the property schedule and arrival time permit, enjoy the gardens, the Rift Valley sunset or a quiet drink before an early night.

Across the Highlands to the Serengeti

Day description

The longest transfer of the safari, and one of its most scenic: up through the Karatu highlands and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, down onto the short-grass plains at Naabi Hill, and into the Seronera region as an en-route game drive.

Morning

After breakfast, climb through the agricultural highlands of Karatu toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Weather permitting, pause at an escarpment or crater-rim viewpoint before continuing across the highlands. The route then descends toward the short-grass plains and the Naabi Hill gateway into Serengeti National Park. This transfer is part of the safari experience: Maasai pastoral landscapes, volcanic highlands and vast plains unfold in sequence.

Afternoon

Depending on timing, enjoy a picnic lunch near Naabi Hill or inside the Serengeti. After entry, the drive becomes an en-route game drive toward the Seronera area, whose permanent water and varied habitats support wildlife throughout the year. Explore the Seronera River system, kopjes and open plains while moving toward camp - lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, elephants, buffalo, giraffes, hippos and numerous antelope species are all associated with this region, and leopards may be found around riverine trees, though any encounter depends on chance and guide skill.

Evening

Arrive at camp before or around sunset when possible. Settle into your tent, enjoy dinner and listen to the night-time sounds of the Serengeti. As with any bush accommodation, follow the safety instructions of the property staff when moving around after dark.

About this stay

A classic premium mid-range tented camp inside the Central Serengeti, roughly 15 km north of the Seronera wildlife area - keeping you inside the ecosystem for early and late game drives and minimising daily transfer time. Alternatives: Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp; Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge.

This is the longest transfer day. A soft neck pillow, light fleece and dust protection for cameras can improve comfort, and road surfaces inside conservation areas are frequently corrugated. An Olduvai Gorge Museum visit can be added en route subject to t

A Full Day on the Central Serengeti Plains

Day description

A whole day with no transfer to make: the Seronera Valley, kopje systems and open plains explored at whatever pace the wildlife and your own preferences suggest.

Morning

Start before breakfast for cooler temperatures and soft light, or take breakfast first if you prefer a slower morning. Early hours are particularly valuable for predator behaviour, bird activity and photography. Your guide may explore the Seronera Valley, kopje systems or open plains according to recent wildlife movements and road conditions.

Afternoon

Choose between returning to camp for lunch and a rest, or carrying a picnic for a full-day game drive - a private safari makes this decision flexible. During the hotter hours, attention often shifts toward shaded cats, hippo pools, elephant movement, raptors and water-dependent areas. As temperatures ease, continue exploring productive habitats: if migration herds are in the central region your guide can prioritise them, and if not, resident wildlife still makes the Central Serengeti one of the most reliable year-round safari sectors in Tanzania.

Evening

Return to camp before park-driving restrictions require, then dinner and a relaxed evening under the Serengeti sky. Staff will escort guests between common areas and tents after dark where required.

Serengeti Farewell and the Ngorongoro Highlands

Day description

A final Serengeti game drive on the way east to Naabi Hill, then across the crater highlands to Karatu - deliberately leaving the crater itself for a proper morning rather than a rushed afternoon.

Morning

Enjoy one final Serengeti game drive while travelling toward Naabi Hill. Rather than attempting a rushed crater descent on this transfer day, the itinerary deliberately preserves time for a more focused crater experience the following morning - which improves pacing and reduces the risk of a late arrival at the Karatu lodge.

Afternoon

Picnic lunch en route. If requested and time permits, stop at the Olduvai Gorge Museum or another approved Ngorongoro attraction, then continue through the conservation area, where wildlife and Maasai pastoral life share a multiple-use landscape. Cross the crater highlands and descend toward Karatu, pausing at a viewpoint for a first look across the immense caldera if skies are clear.

Evening

Arrive at the lodge with time to rest, swim or walk in the gardens before dinner, followed by a briefing for the early crater departure. Temperatures can be cool in the highlands, especially before sunrise, so prepare a fleece or light jacket for tomorrow.

Ngorongoro Crater Safari and Return to Arusha

Day description

A pre-dawn departure for the crater rim and a descent to the caldera floor for four to six hours among its grassland, marsh, springs, woodland and lake-edge habitats, before the road journey back to Arusha.

Morning

Depart early for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend from the forested rim to the crater floor. The caldera contains grassland, marsh, springs, woodland and lake-edge habitats in a compact area. Commonly associated wildlife includes buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, gazelles, spotted hyenas, lions, hippos and elephants. Black rhinoceros occur in the ecosystem and may be seen, but sightings are never guaranteed; giraffes are generally associated with the highlands rather than the crater floor.

Afternoon

Stop at an authorized picnic site for lunch, usually near a wetland or scenic area depending on current operating arrangements, and continue the game drive with attention to changing animal activity, birdlife and viewpoints while your guide manages the crater time limit and ascent schedule. Then ascend and begin the road journey to Arusha through Karatu, Mto wa Mbu and the Great Rift Valley corridor, with a brief comfort stop en route.

Evening

Drop-off at your Arusha hotel, or transfer onward to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport when flight timing is safely compatible. If your international departure is early or tightly timed, Splendor Safari may recommend a post-safari Arusha night rather than relying on a same-day airport connection.
