You leave Zanzibar in the morning and land on a Serengeti airstrip before lunch. Your guide and vehicle are waiting, and the game drive begins from the runway. Two nights follow: one inside the Central Serengeti at a tented camp on the plains, and one in the Ngorongoro highlands within striking distance of the crater rim. On the final morning you descend into the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn, then fly back to the island from Arusha the same afternoon.
The Central Serengeti is the park's year-round wildlife heartland: granite kopjes, umbrella acacias, the Seronera River, and one of the highest leopard densities in Africa alongside resident lion prides and cheetah on the open plains. The Ngorongoro Crater holds an estimated 20,000 to 25,000 large animals inside a single collapsed caldera, including elephant bulls, buffalo, hyena clans, and one of Tanzania's best chances - never a certainty - of black rhino, which would complete the Big Five.
Sightings are never guaranteed in the wild, and three days is a short window. What this itinerary does is remove every wasted hour: you fly over the ground that would otherwise take two days to drive, sleep inside the park rather than outside it, and spend your daylight in the two areas with the densest wildlife in northern Tanzania.
The safari is entirely private. A dedicated 4x4 Land Cruiser with pop-up roof - with drinking water, charging sockets, and binoculars on board - and a professional English-speaking Tanzanian guide are yours alone from the airstrip to the final flight. On a trip this short, that matters more than usual: nothing runs to anyone else's schedule.
Accommodation is authentic tented camp on both nights, one on the Serengeti plains and one in the crater highlands, so you are in the wilderness for the hours that count rather than commuting to it. An early transfer from your Zanzibar hotel to the airport, where our representative sees you checked in. The light aircraft climbs off the island, crosses the Indian Ocean coast and then the long brown sweep of eastern Tanzania, and eventually the Rift Valley opens below. Brief stops at other airstrips are normal on this route.
Afternoon
Land at a Serengeti airstrip where your guide and private 4x4 are waiting. The safari begins at the runway: within minutes of stepping off the aircraft you are on a game drive, often with giraffe or zebra visible before the propellers have stopped, with a picnic lunch at a scenic site. A full afternoon game drive follows through the Seronera Valley - the Serengeti's year-round wildlife heartland of granite kopjes, umbrella acacias and river loops, famous for lion prides and one of Africa's highest leopard densities - with your guide working the loops that recent radio traffic favours.
Evening
Arrive at your tented camp inside the park as the light goes. Sundowner by the fire, dinner under canvas, and a night of hyena whoops and, often, distant lion. The contrast with this morning's beach is complete.

Day description
A dawn game drive through the Seronera Valley - the single most productive session of the itinerary - then east across the plains past Naabi Hill and up into the Ngorongoro highlands for the night before the crater.
Morning
A dawn game drive - the Serengeti's finest hour, when lions finish the night's business and cheetahs test the cool air. Your guide follows fresh tracks through the Seronera Valley's river loops and kopje fields, where leopards drape along sausage-tree branches. On a three-day trip this is the single most productive session of the itinerary, and it is planned accordingly.
Afternoon
Continue east across the short-grass plains toward Naabi Hill, where cheetah are frequently seen on the open ground, with a picnic lunch at the gate kopjes and time to climb the short trail for the view before exiting the park. Then climb into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, tracing the crater rim as the light turns gold over the Malanja Depression and Maasai cattle head home. There is usually time for a rim viewpoint stop, looking down on tomorrow morning from 600 metres above it.
Evening
Arrive at your tented camp in the highlands. Sundowner in genuinely cool air, an early dinner, and a proper night's sleep before the pre-dawn descent.

The aircraft climbs east over the Maasai Steppe toward the coast.
