About the eastern chimpanzee
Tanzania’s chimpanzees live far from the classic northern safari circuit. Gombe Stream and the Mahale Mountains protect forest communities along Lake Tanganyika, where experienced trackers interpret nests, calls, fruiting trees and fresh signs.
Chimpanzees use tools, form alliances and maintain learned local traditions. Visits are tightly managed: travellers should follow distance, health and time limits that protect both people and apes.
