Solo travellers are a large part of who we take on safari, and the country is well set up for it. You are never alone in the bush: you travel with a professional guide, you stay in camps and lodges with other guests, and on a shared departure you have five travelling companions by the second morning.
The two things worth understanding are the seat and the room. The seat is simple — on a shared safari your window seat costs the same as anyone else's. The room is where solo travel gets expensive anywhere in the world, because lodges price per room, not per person. We deal with that in one of two ways: either you pay a single supplement and have the room to yourself, or we pair you with another solo traveller of the same gender and you pay the standard sharing rate.
For safety and comfort, we brief every solo traveller before departure, share the guide's number and the full lodge list with someone at home if you want us to, and keep the same guide with you throughout so there is a familiar face for the whole trip.
