Availability & When to Book

How far ahead to book, what a deposit holds, and what happens when a first-choice camp is full.

Tanzania's best camps are small — often under twenty rooms — so availability, not price, is usually the constraint. For July, August, September, Christmas and New Year, book eight to twelve months ahead. For the calving season in February, six to nine months. For the green season, three months is usually comfortable, and last-minute is often possible.

We hold space provisionally while you decide, normally for seven days at no cost, and confirm it with a deposit — typically 30% of the total, with the balance due 60 days before travel. Park fees, balloon flights and internal flights are paid at the same time as the deposit at some properties, because those are non-refundable once issued.

If a first choice is full, we will say so straight away and offer the closest alternative in the same area and comfort level, with an honest note on how it differs. We would rather move you to a camp we rate than sell you a worse one in the right name.
